Weluzani Banda demonstrate his invention

By Jemimah Chungu

A Zambian born technologist/inventor, Weluzani Banda has made history after inventing a one of a kind glove that converts sign language to voice audio.

The extra ordinary glove- device is created in such a way that special people in the social environment who are deaf and/or dumb (mute) can easily communicate by wearing it whilst communicating as the device reads sign language and transforms it to ordinary audio speech.

Speaking via a Social Media statement, Banda said “Please like and share……. We might change the world together. I have come up with a glove that converts sign language to Audio voice.”

He has also taken leverage of reducing the toxicity caused by plastic waste on the environment such as climate change by recycling plastic bottles.

Through his Facebook posting, the inventor pointed out that “Recycling reduces the need for extracting, refining and processing raw materials all of which create air and water pollution. As recycling saves energy it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change…. Let’s end Period poverty as we clean up our planet 🌏.”

Many African innovations are left unsupported and unrecognized due to heavy reliance on western technology. Amidst digitalization, inventions like Banda’s glove needs appraising to support a better tomorrow for our society.
