The Republic of Zambia proclaimed independence from the British colony on 24th October, 1964 after 76 years of colonialization. As such, the central- southern African country celebrates her independence on 24th October, annually.

Zambia’s Independence Day celebrated on 24th October

The first president of the Republic of Zambia was Dr. Kenneth Kaunda (1924-2021), a national hero who coined the motto ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ for peace and unity.

Since 24th October, 1964 when she got her independence, Zambia has not experienced any wars or national unrest. Zambia is therefore ranked on the top 5 of most peaceful countries in Africa and among the most peaceful countries in the world.

Zambia’s presidents celebrated on the 58th year of independence (2022)

As Zambia celebrates her 58th year of independence, (2022) there is only one surviving former president, Edgar Chagwa Lungu. The first president died in 2021 the same year Zambia changed it’s governance to a new party president, his excellency president Hakainde Hichilema referred to as ‘new dawn government’.

Hence, Zambia’s 58th independence anniversary is being celebrated in the new dawn government. From a Zambian perspective, Zambia’s 58th anniversary of independence is a new sense of independence.
