Ebola prevention in Uganda (pic credit: WHO)

Uganda’s Health Ministry declared an Ebola virus outbreak early this month in 5 of the country’s districts including Kagadi, Mubende, Kassanda, Kyegema and Bunyangabu.

Ebola virus is reportedly a laboratory-made virus but prominent researchers say it is acquired by being in contact with an infected animal like a bat or monkey among other non-human primate from the Sub-Saharan Africa.

Currently, Ugandans are living in fear as the virus has so far claimed a few lives amidst a surging number of infections.

While many are quarantined, there has not been any approved vaccines or therapeutics for prevention or treatment for the virus and its infection rate is said to be quite fast.

Like other viruses, Ebola virus thrives through biological fluids, air, and temperature, environmental factors that support its life while advancing environmental degradation like climate change.

The change of mindset and lifestyle to achieve environmental restoration and protection is key for the well-being of humanity.
