The Kenté, a tradition-inspired fashion is one of the most influential and reputable African fashion trends. It is a significant fabric invented by the ewe people and it depicts their culture and lifestyle altogether. This fashion has assorted patterns and colorful printed apparels that are most selling and imitated on the market. Kenté fashions are also influential to hundreds of fashion designers of clothes, decors, and household equipment across the word.

Traditionally, the Kenté is made to a large loincloth wrapped around the body, with a “throw over” like style on one shoulder. The loincloth is matched with Knee short pants or shorts. Kenté attires are accessorized with head-wraps or other headwear made from the same fabric or other fabrics with pearls dotted with gold beads on the wrist, neck and ankles. This ewe fashion is matched with sandals by men or traditional leather mules and modernly any stylish shoes.

The Kenté can be recognized as an original West African fashion. Weaving of this fabric in some parts of the West African region can be traced back to around the 17th Century; attesting lifelong original African art, culture and social practice. Presently, trending clothes and apparels are made from this fabric made into many creative patterns in the fashion world for all ages and genders.

There are about 50 types of the Kenté patterns each with its own symbolism and name,but it is the uniqueness of the patterns, colors and originality that gives thirst to fashion this ewe traditional fabric that has a symbolic and visual effect. Feminine colors are usually pink, purple, light yellow and light blue, while musculine colors tend to be black, dark blue, dark yellow, orange, red and dark green. All in all Kenté fabrics are bright and eyeful complimented by the different weaved or printed patterns.
