Zambia’s hip-hop rap mogul Mwila Musonda popularly known as Slap-D has faced a huge online backlash following his nomination for the best make southern Africa category for the 2021 AFRIMMA awards
This has come as a result of his political involvement particularly with the recently-booted-out Patriotic Front-PF from government by long-term rivals the United Party for National Development-UPND in a humiliating defeat with over 1,000,000 votes in August.

Slap-D released a song for the former ruling party during the campaign period when the general citizenry was not in good books with the said PF. In his song, Slap-D praised the then head of state Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu for taking massive development to all sectors of the economy, however, with the series of scandals that rocked the PF in the last year of their reign from expired medicines, defective condoms, purchasing of fire trucks at $1,000,000 each, his fans took this as mockery to the people and labelled the hip-hop artist as an accomplice to the oppressor. Fans took to his Facebook page with most opposing his political tag taking into account that in 2019, Musonda vehemently vowed to never do any sing for any politician, regarding it as a dent to any musician’s career.

After the release of the song titled “alebwelelapo”(He will return), the Rap mogul with multiple awards attached to his name took a fist against critics claiming the political song “was just business”, a move that sparked and even more throw of negative sentiments from fans around the country.

As of yesterday, screenshots of a lot of people voting in the AFRIMMA awards are circulating on tabloids with many voting for South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest and not Slap-D. Cassper who has been trending on Facebook in Zambia posted asking why he was trending in Zambia and fans in Zambia took a swipe at Slap-D on the South African rapper’s page, which later saw another post by ‘King Cass’ which said “It’s just business” of which many have seen as a troll to Slap-D.
Other Zambian artists nominated are Bombshell Grenade and Sampa the great as part of the best female rapper category.
