The importance of performance Appraisal in any business entity is the ability for an organisation or company to identify its hard working employees.

A general understanding that employees play an important role in establishing and realizing company goals; such that it enables the business to grow and bring the company together.

Organizations (companies) maintain their status quo and grow in size and capacity based on efforts of individual employs. For this reason, employees are assigned in different departments depending on their area of specialization, which enables them to work confidently and bring out the best of their effort towards achieving the goals of a company.

It is important to note that almost 50% of what happens in a company or organization is known by employees of that company. From small conflicts, gossips, unjustified allowances and breach of ethics by managers and everyone else is known by employees and influence them greatly. Performance appraisal helps avoid such issues in work places if well applied.

Performance Appraisal does not only motivate employees within the organisation but it also creates a positive outlook for those outside the business or company. It creates an atmosphere for work dedication and effective performance.

Subsequently, performance appraisal helps build a chain of work within the organisation. It enables every employee to accomplish their work on time and to their best of their ability.

A Zambian businessman who runs a school, Mr. Banda says, ”Team work is important for the growth of any business and performance Appraisal is equally recommended for the success of any businessman. It creates an atmosphere for employees to be motivated and put in their best for the goal of the company’’.

Performance Appraisal may be presented differently by various organization, but it must be effective and good for the company.
